Gatsby-style Kota

πŸ₯– Gatsby-Style Kota Recipe

Ingredients (serves 2–3 hungry people)

  • 1 half-loaf of fresh white bread (unsliced, top cut off & hollowed)
  • 2 cups French fries (slap chips style, thick-cut & soft inside)
  • 2 fried eggs (sunny side up or over easy)
  • 2–3 slices processed cheese
  • 1 cup beef steak strips (or boerewors/sausage/polony)
  • 1 grilled chicken breast or peri-peri chicken strips (optional, for variety)
  • 1–2 Vienna sausages or hot dogs (sliced in half & grilled)
  • Β½ cup coleslaw or shredded lettuce (optional, adds crunch)
  • Sauces: Atchar, BBQ sauce, tomato sauce, mayo, or peri-peri sauce (go heavy)
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Extra slice of bread (as a β€œlid” for the Kota)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the bread: Slice the half-loaf across the top and hollow out the center (keep the bread lid aside).
  2. Layer fries: Add a thick base of hot slap chips inside the hollowed loaf.
  3. Add proteins: Pile in the steak strips, sausage slices, and chicken (if using).
  4. Cheese & egg: Place cheese slices on top of the hot fries/meat so they melt, then add fried eggs.
  5. Veggie crunch (optional): A spoon of coleslaw or lettuce for freshness.
  6. Sauce it up: Drizzle a LOT of mayo, atchar, BBQ sauce, and tomato sauce.
  7. Close & serve: Put the bread lid back on top, press down gently, and cut in half (like a Gatsby).
